Dear classmates:
These last week I have
been thinking over which kind of books children have to read. I wondered if
kids can read everithing, any literary genre or if they
are required to read a certain book or author.
I think that no matter what kind of book the children read, the theme, the genre or epoch, the main fact is reading, promote reading and create the habit of reading daily. I am sure that each literary genre provides children somenthing good and different to children. Reading various kinds or genres of books every reader may learn different words, specific vocabulary , different illustrations related with the topic and imagine a new world.
Historical fiction helps
children know the story, the most important moments so that children have a
global vision and very full life
Fantasy and science fcition helps children to develop their imaginarion. Literature allows the development of imaginative fuction of the languague due to the learning experiences realted with the enjoyment and recreation, it promotesthe creativity and the development of fantasy in the spontaneous production of imaginative texts
Biographies have a way of inspiring kids. The best ones introduce famous presidents, inventors, educators and scientists in a way that helps kids identify with the person.
Information books helps kids to answer questions, and reference books help them find the answers
Poetry just isn't as widely read as it should be. Poetry is often shorter too, which makes the task of reading less overwhelming for new or reluctant readers. Poetry helps to form an aesthetic education, develops sensitivity, provides a new way of understanding and interpreting the world, makes more complete human beings, builds vocabulary and expression.
