Why Literature is important?

We always talk about how important it is to develop creativity in our future students but not only through painting, drawing or coloring  we can  also develop the creativity and the critical sense  with literature.

Literature is a way of communication that serves to enable people to enjoy the beauty, have dreams, visit new pleaces, develop imagination, meet new personalities, situations and opinions and of course acquire knowledge.

When a child reads a books, for example, he identifies with characters, he learns about values, ethics and standars of behaviour as love, hard work, sincerity, honesty, courage and friendship, happiness, solidarity and equialty. So literature is an excellent way through children can learn to distinguish right from wrong and expands their knowledge on history, science, politics, real situations and much more.

If as teachers we promote reading, are examples to our children, they will learn and imitate us. They will learn not only vocabulary or knowledge also develop imagination and creativity will learn something new every day.

Julia Donaldson knows very well how to make good children's literature so if you want to investigate something more about her visit these links!!
Thanks!

  1. Hello Andrea!
    I agree with you!!
I think that literacy is essential in our lives, therefore, we as teachers have to develop it in our children, because we are models for them and they are going to imitate, work and do the same things which we perform.
Also I consider that literacy contributes in the adquisition of knowledge and in doing possible the communication with other people. but to get it, the creation and imagination are totally necessary, because the literacy not only are poems or books.
    Good job!
    See you, bye!
